Sheldon Richardson is traded to the Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks has welcomed defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson from the New York Jets in exchange for receiver Jermaine Kearse. This represents an upgrade to their line of defense.

Still considered one of the strongest defenses in the NFL, the Seahawks were still lacking depth and a difference in penetration.  They aim to fill this gap with the addition of Richardson.  Of course, more is expected of him.

The exchange, which occurred last Friday, was a second-round pick to the Jets. Both the Jets and the Seahawks also swapped seventh-round picks.

The New York Jets drafted Leonard Williams in 2015 to play alongside Muhammad Wilkerson on the defensive line.  This move made Richardson expendable to the team. With his contract almost coming to an end, they have been trying to deal him all year.  So this is one transaction that makes sense for both teams.

The Seahawks were looking for an upgrade to their defense, which comes with Richardson as a right fit.

Richardson was general draft No. 13 in 2013.  He quickly hit stardom by winning Defensive Rookie of the Year and the following year he made the eight-sack 2014 Pro Bowl season.

But the last two seasons have seen how 26-year-old Richardson has been struggling to keep up his pace

On this the final year of his rookie contract, he is set to make $8 million a year. He has the motivation of coming to Seattle to prove he is one of the best interior pass rushers in the NFL. Fans now are waiting to see how scary this defense will get when he pairs up with Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril.
