Eagles Opt To Release Evan Mathis Following Contract Issues

Eagles Opt To Release Evan Mathis Following Contract Issues

Following the public contract issues between the Eagles and Evan Mathis, their pro-bowl guard, the team has decided to let him go. The decision that was reached upon by the team ended a long standoff between the Eagles and Mathias which has continued throughout two off-seasons.

According to several reports, 33-year old Mathis was not happy about his five-year contract with the eagles which is worth 25 million dollars and as a result he has been skipping a number of the team’s offseason activities and the case wasn’t different this time around as he also skipped this year’s team’s offseason activities.

As for Mathias the decision by the team, depending on how he views it, to release him due to contract issues might have come as a blessing given the fact that Mathias faced a fine in an event that he missed the team’s mandatory training which is scheduled for this week.

Last year when the two camps were involved in an open contractual spat gave Mathias and his agent permission to look for other teams where the pro bowl guard can play for and the same permission was also given to him this year but nothing materialized.

The news about Mathias being released was first announced by the NFL network although its good to note that the Eagles are yet to publicly confirm the news. ESPN have also confirmed that the Eagles have indeed released Mathias. As for Mathias, he tweeted a tweet just a few minutes after the news came out thanking all the Eagles fans for the love and support they showed towards him.
