Three American women who have won the ESPY Award

Three American women who have won the ESPY Award

The ESPY awards are held each year to celebrate the world of sports, both male and female, single players and teams. The ESPY awards are presented by ESPN and televised on the ESPN network. Despite being a paid cable channel and marketed towards those with a keen interest in sports, ESPN and the ESPY awards are incredibly popular and highly regarded as fans are able to see their favorite sports stars dressed up and gathered together in an area off the courts and out of the gym.

When award shows in the sports categories are thought of and discussed, most often men are at the forefront of the conversation. Many believe men to be the winners of such awards and to be deserving of the recognition coming from playing a sport and being conditioned year round. In our modern society, these views have changed. Women are playing more sports than ever and are also being awarded almost as often as men.

To show how times have changed in regards to women and sports, many women have won the ESPY award for their contribution to the world of sports. In 2015, the U.S. women’s soccer team won an ESPY award, and transgender star Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce Jenner) was also lauded by being awarded the Arthur Ashe courage award.

Three other American women who have won ESPY awards this season are:

Jimmy V ESPY Award for Perseverance
Leah Still

Best Moment Award
Lauren Hill

Pat Tillman Award for Service
Danielle Green

In the past, women were not usually thought of and regarded highly during the sports award season. As times have changed, women are being awarded and praised for their efforts and looked up to as respected athletes.
